Speaking of Excellence – Classroom Discipline and Time to Teach
What an extraordinary group of servants. I am speaking in reference to our teachers. One of the most impactful experiences I have had was to substitute teach at a local middle school. My subject was science, which I have always loved. But what made the experience special was realizing what a teacher goes through in a single day. Besides having to follow rubrics and curriculum guides, there was a battle to maintain order in the classroom. The time spent discipling students often consumed precious time needed for instruction. I was simply blown away and now have an abundance of respect for what teachers deal with each day. Now my tenure lasted in total one year. It prompted to seek out ways to help teachers recapture precious time needed to invest in the minds of our students. The good news is I found the Center for Teach Effectiveness (CTE). Their program and approach to teaching focused on taking back the classrooms for the purpose of learning. Their books and supporting materials gave me the insights needed to reclaim the learning environment. I had the pleasure of experiencing that success before returning consulting. I have attached a link to the resources and offer my services to coach groups on implementing the concepts in the classroom.
So, to all our teachers out there, thank you for all that you do and the service you provide developing the minds of our youth. They are our future.
